March 6, 2009, St. Joseph Science Fair
Celebrate the best water-related science projects at the Mid-America Regional Science and Engineering Fair. Missouri American Water offers the Dave Hines Award to the creator of the top water science project.

March 7, 2009, St. Louis County JSEHS Water Quality Research Award
The Missouri American Water High School Water Quality Research Award is awarded at the University of Missouri St. Louis Junior Science Engineering and Humanities Symposium in March. High school students across the state are eligible to participate.

March 28, 2009, St. Louis and St. Charles Counties River Cleanup
Come to the Confluence St. Louis Trash Bash at the Chain of Rocks Bridge in St. Louis. Missouri American Water teams join volunteers from across the metro region to clean up our waterways.

April

Statewide – Missouri American Water Environmental Grant Program
Applications will be available during the first week in April. The grants are designed to support innovative, community-based environmental projects that improve, restore or protect watersheds and community drinking water supplies. The grant application deadline is June 1.

The company will award grants of up to $10,000. In the past, the grants have supported diverse types of activities, such as watershed cleanups, reforestation efforts and biodiversity projects. Information and applications are available on the Missouri American Water website.

April 1, 2009, 6:30 p.m. St. Louis County Infrastructure Forum
KETC TV hosts the Metro Water Infrastructure Partnership Forum. Come join Missouri American Water for a screening of the PBS documentary “Liquid Assets” and a public forum about the region’s water and wastewater infrastructure. To reserve your place at this free event, call KETC at 314-512-9021.

April 6, 2009, 9:00 p.m. St. Louis/St Charles, Jefferson City KETC/Channel 9 hosts the PBS documentary “Liquid Assets”
Learn about the challenges facing our nation’s water and wastewater infrastructure.

April 18, 6:30 p.m. H2Ozarks Program
Airing on KSN, the Joplin NBC affiliate, this 30-minute documentary focuses on watersheds in the Ozarks. Learn more about watershed protection and your drinking water. Missouri American Water is the sponsor of this program which includes an interview with Joplin operations manager, Matthew Barnhart.

April 18 & 19, 2009 Saint Louis Science Center Eco Expo
Come learn how to live green and help protect our watersheds. Missouri American Water features interactive activities for kids and adults. Stop by our booth to learn more!

April 25, 2009 St. Charles County Community College Wellness Festival
Learn about the importance of water to healthy living at Missouri American Water’s interactive booth for adults and kids. If you join the 5K run, you’ll see our employees handing out water along the way!

May

May 4 – 8, 2009, St. Joseph Drinking Water Week
Water quality presentations will be given to students visiting the St. Joseph Nature Center during Drinking Water Week.
The students will learn how their drinking water is treated and delivered to their homes.

Drinking Water Week Poster Contests will be held at South Middle School in Joplin and Robidoux Middle School in St. Joseph (May 4 – 8) Students apply their artistic talents to depict water conservation, pollution prevention and the water cycle. Prizes are provided by local Missouri American Water teams as part of the Education Business Partnership Program.

May 2, 2009, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m St. Louis County Watershed Festival
Join the Watkins Creek Water Festival, at Hazelwood East High School. For the second year, more than 20
groups are celebrating the importance of water. Come and learn about watersheds at Missouri American Water’s interactive booth.

Tuesday, May 5, 2009, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. St. Louis County Drinking Water Week Celebration, Powder Valley Nature Center
The Missouri American Water/World Bird Sanctuary watershed education program comes to Powder Valley Nature Center in celebration of Drinking Water Week. Come watch the raptors take flight! Make your reservation through the Powder Valley Nature Center.

May 6, 6:00 p.m., Joplin Drinking Water Week Celebration
The Wildcat Glades Audubon and Nature Center hosts the Missouri American Water/World Bird Sanctuary watershed education program, featuring a variety of raptors and information about how simple steps to protect your watershed can also help these magnificent birds thrive.

World Bird Sanctuary presentations also will be taking place in Joplin’s Jefferson, Irving, Columbia, Kelsey Norman and Royal Heights elementary schools Monday through Friday during Drinking Water Week.

May 7, 10:00 a.m., Joplin – Ribbon Cutting Celebration for Joplin’s expanded water treatment plant

Joplin Water Festival
Watch for information about the Joplin Wildcat Glades Conservation and Audubon Nature Center Water Fest. Missouri American Water and the Nature Center will present a fun-filled day of water activities and education.

July 4, 2009, Jefferson City Salute to America
Watch for Missouri American Water and the World Bird Sanctuary’s watershed protection program featuring Liberty, the bald eagle.

August 22, 2009, St. Louis County – Missouri Stream Team, Meramec River Cleanup at George Winter Park Missouri American Water’s ten-year history of providing boats and volunteers continues in 2009 as we support the Missouri Stream Team’s cleanup efforts.

September 19, 2009, Jefferson City - River Cleanup and Celebration
Join Missouri River Relief, Missouri American Water and many other groups and volunteers for a clean up event, across the river and upstream from the capitol dome!

Sept 26, 2009, Warrensburg Heart Walk
Missouri American Water teams hand out water to the walkers for this important cause.

Statewide - School signups for the National Theatre for Children Water Theatre program begin this month
These free, interactive theatre performances are available to elementary schools in all of our service areas. The shows, presented in winter/spring 2010, teach the value of water and the importance of protecting and conserving this precious resource.
